What you will be doing:

COCUS is a leading provider of 5G Mobile Private Networks based on Open-Ran technology. We are looking for a Senior System Engineer to work on our 5G Costumer Projects organization. The 5G Customer Projects organization is responsible for the end-to-end rollout of our 5G solutions for customers, working closely with product development and operations teams.

As a Senior System Engineer, you will:

• Work together with other system and radio engineers to implement private 5G networks for industrial applications and research projects
• Together you will be responsible for all technical tasks from design to acceptance of the private 5G network and handover to Operations
• Accompany the complete project lifecycle and support our team in the areas of technical presales, radio planning, measurement, and deployment of our 5G systems
• Communicate between external network planning offices, customers and COCUS
• Rough estimations for budgetary information on the number of antennas needed in the areas to be covered
• Rough network sizing based on customer requests - technical presales support
• Implementation of the designed system > Hands-On > Configurations, optimizations
• You’re the contact for the RAN supplier regarding roadmap planning, technical KPIs, feasibility study
• Commissioning and optimization of 5G networks: Calibration/network optimizations, configurations, optimizations, and acceptances.
• You implement software-based network components and accompany the integration in the customer environment
• The development of container solutions and the administration of virtual machines are part of your daily tasks
• You will develop network designs and configurations for virtual environments
• You support our presales team in answering technical inquiries.

What we are looking for:

• First-hand experience with Ansible or comparable automation techniques
• Strong AWS management skills and network configuration
• Practical experience with Kubernetes and/or containers
• Very good Linux knowledge
• You’re familiar with Linux-based/software networks
• Practical experience with analysis tools such as Wireshark
• Thanks to your hands-on mentality you deliver results
• Good communications and influencing skills, with the ability to explain technologies and solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Fluent in written and spoken English
• Degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering or similar.

What will be a plus:

• You can easily explain the differences/advantages between mobile communications (5G) and Wifi
• Practical experience in mobile communications, preferably 4G or 5G
• Architectural knowledge of Open RAN and with the associated protocols (ideally holistically from RAN to Core)
• Experience with radio network planning tools such as ibWave/Winprop.
