We are looking for a OPTICS AND OPTO-ELECTRONICS SYSTEM ENGINEER to join the team and work on the support to:

• Ground station developments, defining technical specifications and statement of works, participating in procurement tender evaluation boards in the role of technical expert and designing reviews, factory and site acceptance tests;
• Technology development activities, defining requirements, preliminary prototyping and breading boarding activities and technical evaluation of achievements;
• Preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance and to Operations during critical phases.

The candidate will deliver the above services, (depending on the phase of the project) primarily to:

1. Review of optical / telescope system design and modelling (shadow engineering),

2. Review of ground based free-space optical communication systems and modelling,

3. Review of optical systems assembly, integration, alignment, and acceptance testing,

4. Performing technical calculations: e.g. link budgets, end-to-end and optical system performance, light detection with CCD, CMOS systems, optical communication receivers, timing jitter, phase and amplitude noise analysis, clock stability / Allan deviation,

5. Optical link budget calculations (incl. Quantum Key Distributions),

6. End-to-end free-space optical communication link system engineering,

7. Analysis of atmospheric propagation effects, wave-front correction techniques, adaptive optics,

8. Modulation and detection techniques, image processing and signal processing techniques,

9. Ground to space free space laser systems design (for laser ranging or laser momentum transfer)

What we expect from you?

• Experience in ground station equipment handling
• Experience in calibration procedures and organisation with external suppliers.
• Use of ESTRACK Configuration DataBase (ECDB).
• Knowledge of hardware and software for TT&C applications and their interfaces, including monitor and control
• Knowledge of Telemetry and Telecommand, Networking
• Experience in optical and photonic systems
• Experience in Frequency and Timing systems
• Knowledge and experience in data communication systems involving e.g. modulation, demodulation, PCM telemetry and telecommand, communication protocols (TCP/IP, SLE), coding techniques, data processing.
• Knowledge of ECSS and CCSDS standards
• Participation in Ground Station systems and subsystems related meetings to share information with other stakeholders.
• Preparation and presentation of the output of the services (analysis, finding, etc.)

The successful candidate will have previous proven experience in similar roles and mentioned technologies.
