Reporting to the IT Infrastructure Manager the IT Infrastructure Engineer will act as an escalation point for the IT Service Desk on Infrastructure related incidents and perform day to day administration of all Infrastructure related systems. In addition, they will complete technical project work and respond to standard service requests. Establish and maintain effective relationships with the business users and Group IT teams, and facilitate communication and education between the two disciplines.
The IT Infrastructure Engineer is expected to combine responding to incidents, day to day administration and technical project work on all systems supported by the Infrastructure Team, including but not limited to server and storage hardware, Active Directory, VMWare vSphere, Windows Server, Veeam, Microsoft Azure, GCP and Microsoft 365.
General day-to-day:
· Attends weekly team meetings, and project progress report meetings as required.
· Liaise with 3rd Party Suppliers when necessary
· Following standard change control procedures, including presenting details of proposed changes to CAB
· Participate in an out of hours emergency call out rota for major incidents (no more than 1 week in 4)
· Take ownership of incidents escalated by the IT Service Desk and collaborate with suppliers, application vendors and other IT staff to resolve
· Perform routine maintenance tasks on IT systems such as applying patches and configuration changes
· Carry out cloud based admin tasks and troubleshooting in GCP, Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure
· Undertake day to day Windows Server, Active Directory and VMWare vSphere administration tasks
· To respond to standard service requests, and take ownership of the delivery of such requests
· Take technical responsibility for small projects as allocated by line manager
· Attend sites to assist with IT Infrastructure installations as required, which may include foreign travel
· Update technical documentation to enable the IT Service Desk to resolve a higher percentage of incidents without the need for escalation
· Assist with any other technical activities related to the businesses IT Infrastructure as required.
· Reporting: Input into problem and root cause analysis reports as requested by Problem Manager. Input into weekly team reports. Input into capacity management reports
Required:
· Possession of either VMWare or Microsoft certification for a relevant technology
· An in-depth knowledge of Active Directory, including Group Policy
· Experience of administrating a Windows Server estate (2012 R2 )
· Experience supporting Microsoft 365
· Experience of administrating VMWare vSphere (6.5 )
· A good understanding of networking concepts including DNS and DHCP
· Experience of supporting server and storage hardware, preferably HPE
· Strong analytical skills to quickly and accurately respond to re-active problems ensuring that the most appropriate course of action is taken
· Experience of working in an ITIL environment, understanding how the end to end processes work across the organisation
Preferable:
· Experience of Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform
· Experience of PowerShell
· A strong understanding of security across the infrastructure technology stack
· Some MS SQL Server administration experience
· Experience of managing an enterprise backup solution
· Knowledge of an enterprise anti-virus product
