What's this job all about? 

In Jumia we are moving towards the usage of Big Data and Machine Learning to improve our business using the most advanced technologies.

We are currently hiring a Big Data and Machine Learning Engineer to help us on the automation of machine learning models, and contributing for the enrichment of our data lake developing and automating the processes of Collect, ingest, blend, transform, distribute and publish huge amounts of data. As a part of our Big Data tech team you will work closely with engineers and data scientists steering the entire company’s Big Data, Data Science and Machine Learning projects.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Contribute in the design and construction of the company data lake;

  • Collect, store, process, and support the analysis of huge sets of data, both structured and unstructured in ur Big Data Cluster;

Requirements:

  • Understanding of one or more object-oriented programming languages (C#, Java, etc);

  • Demonstrable skills and experience using SQL with large data sets (SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, etc);

  • Experience in building ETL processes (SSIS, Oracle Data Integrator; Code based);

  • Experience in modeling databases for analytical consumption (Star Schema; Snowflake; Data Vault);

  • Experience with data visualization tools (PowerBI, Grafana, Superset, etc); 

  • Experience in OLAP tools (SSAS, IBM Cognos) with multidimensional and/or tabular models;

  • Experience with high throughput, 24x7 systems;

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations;

  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.

 

Valued:

  • Familiar with the BigData landscape to serve the different layers of a BigData pipeline (HDFS, Hive, Airflow, NiFi, Sqoop);

  • Experience creating and driving large scale ETL pipelines.

  • Fluent in at least one scripting language (Shell, Python, etc.);

  • Experience in working in a SCRUM/ AGILE environment.
