CONTEXT/INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES

DG RTD is developing, for the Research and Innovation Family, a common workflow solution COMPASS, a common Grant management system SyGMa and a common Expert management system ECS. These systems essentially serve the management of the new framework programme "Horizon 2020", that started in 2014.

DG RTD (CSC / J4), with the support of DG DIGIT, is developing, for the DG DEVCO, a common workflow solution COMPASS and a common Development Aid management system OPSYS.

All above mentioned systems use

- a middleware called ERIS to interface with the corporate Document Archival system, called ARES

- a middleware called JAGate to interface with the corporate accounting system called ABAC.

The ERIS and JAGate projects need the services of an Application Architect, with maximum level 3.

The candidate will join a multi-DG team and will contribute to the development of new functionality for the ERIS and JAGate middleware.

NATURE OF THE TASKS

• Architecture and design of the interfaces between information systems
• Java enterprise development
• Analysis of the integration of different information systems
• Data analysis and data modelling
• Analysis of document management problems
• Coordination of the implementation of the technical architecture
• Technical interface between the project leaders and the developers
• Production of software architecture documents
• Participation in technical working groups, progress meetings and meetings with the users
• Assistance during relevant parts of testing, analysis, technical documentation, deployment, evaluation and reporting

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL

• Good knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture
• Good knowledge of Java Enterprise development
• Good knowledge of applications design
• Good knowledge of modelling tools
• Good knowledge of Enterprise Architecture
• Good knowledge of Relational DBMS
• Good knowledge of business process analysis
• Knowledge of interoperability technology (e.g. web services, message oriented middleware, service oriented bus)
• Good redaction skills
• Ability to give technical presentations
• Ability to apply high quality standards
• Ability to cope with fast changing technologies used in application architecture and design
• Ability to participate in multi-lingual meetings, good communication skills
• Team player

The following technical skills would be a plus:

• Familiar/experienced with ARES document archival System used at the European Commission
• Familiar/experienced with ABAC accounting system used at the European Commission
